    Announcements March 7, 2010

Our ushers today are Patti Linn and Ron Moore.

You were greeted by David Pritchard.

Welcome: Amplifiers are available for people who may be hearing impaired. Please ask an usher and they can provide you with one. Large print bulletins and sermons are available in the narthex. Children are invited to Sunday school.

Communion: Today is Communion Sunday.  Our communion table is open to all.  Our tradition is to have the deacons serve the bread, and then eat together once everyone is served.  Likewise, cups are served to everyone and then we drink together.  The cup contains grape juice.  It is a great honor to serve one another, to draw close to Christ’s presence, to give thanks for our community, and to pray for wholeness and sustenance for all God’s people.

Worship Resources:  Today’s call to worship was written by Jeff Shrowder, 2003.  The Prayer of Confession and Words of Assurance were adapted from words by Wesley Brian Jamison.

New Member Reception:  We are hosting a New Member dinner tonight at 5 p.m. to welcome those who are committing themselves to our church this season.  New members will be received formally during the service on Sunday, March 14th with a coffee hour reception to follow.  Please join us on the 14th to honor their commitment and to welcome them into our community.

Mission Moment for Help Overseas: The Missions Board would like to help Church World Service replenish their quickly diminishing supply of emergency relief kits which are shipped to people in need around the world. It is easy to do. We need your help.  A list of items that are needed for each kit can be found at the front of the church, next to the collection box labeled “Hygiene Kits”.  Once purchased and assembled, you can return your kit to us and we will ship them all together.  Don’t forget to pick up a list before you go!  Church World Service and the Missions Board thank you!

Copies of the Annual Report are Ready for You: If you haven’t received your copy of the Annual Report, please check the box in the Parish Hall during coffee hour.  Packets are filed alphabetically.

Drivers Needed: Some of our members need occasional rides to the church.  Would you be willing to be among a pool of drivers to be called upon?  The church office will generate a list of drivers to be shared upon request.  Please contact Meg at 693-2842 to be added to the list or to receive a copy of the list.

Helping Each Other Out: Struggling to make ends meet this winter?  Please consider promoting your skills through the church newsletter.  Contact Meg in the church office at 693-2842 or email her at wtiscong@comcast.net.  Feeling overwhelmed by spring cleaning, gardening, or other chores?  Let the church know.  Perhaps there is a match.

Children’s Choir Rehearsal:  All children are asked to join Linda Berg after service on Sunday, March 14th and March 21st to rehearse their music for the Palm Sunday service.

New Apples on the Giving Tree!  The Stewardship Committee would like to announce a couple of new “apples” ripe for picking on our beautiful giving tree.  We are so grateful for those who picked so many of our apples in 2009!

We are looking for a banner stand, which will allow us to move our giving tree around, making it more visible and accessible.  Might there be one (or something we could use for one) in your attic or cellar?  Is there a carpenter in our midst who could make one?

We are in need of a new letter set for the outside sign.  (You might have noticed the hanging ‘As’ and the upside down ‘V’ that substituted for an ‘A’ at Christmas.)  With Easter coming up, we no longer have enough letters to publicize our Easter services!  The cost with shipping for a letter set is $120.  Partial contributions are also welcome.

August Housing for Guest Speaker, Rev. Raphael Warnock: The Rev. Warnock from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA has agreed to grace our pulpit on Sunday, August 15th.  We are looking for accommodations for him for the nights of August 14th - August 20th preferably down-Island.  Please contact Cathlin for more details.

Community Suppers:  Community Suppers continue this Wednesday, March 10th and will continue through the end of the month.  Dinner is served promptly at 5:30 p.m.  Members of the congregation are encouraged to provide food at each of these meals.  Please speak to Miki Badnek (508-696-0448) if you wish to contribute.

Church Office: The office is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Rev. Baker is normally in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during this time.  Anyone is welcome to stop by the office.   If you need to spend time with Cathlin, it is recommended that you call Meg in the church office (693-2842) to schedule an appointment.
