Community Lunch Program

Community Lunch Program

Our new Mission is Island Grown Community Lunch Program.  This program has been developed by Island Grown Initiative to provide lunches for Island children and community members during the summer. This year from July 9–August 17, Monday–Friday, free lunches will be offered to all ages, to support food needs for children, elders and other adults in the community who would benefit from delicious, healthy prepared meals. Lunches will be served at the West Tisbury Library and the Family Center in Vineyard Haven, the Oak Bluffs Library, the Boys and Girls Club in Edgartown, and the English Language Learner Summer Program at the Tisbury School in Vineyard Haven.

If you would like to volunteer or have already signed  up to volunteer—Thank You!! We feel so fortunate to have a community that is willing to come together to make sure all islanders have access to the food they need.  We have almost 100 volunteers now who will be helping make the program a success, from many different faith-based and civic groups and from the general community.  All volunteers need to come to one volunteer training, where we'll explain more about the program, do some basic food safety trainings, and get a chance to meet one another.

We have two volunteer training dates for you to choose from:

Monday June 18th, 5:30-7pm

Wednesday June 27th, 6:30-8pm

Both trainings will take place at the Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven.  We will provide snacks and will keep it as fun and as brief as possible!

Please let Marjorie know (if you haven't already) which of these trainings you are planning to attend so we can have all the requisite paperwork and snacks at the ready.

If you will be volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, please bring along a photocopy of your driver's license, as we will need to turn those in to the Club for background checks.

Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, and thank you again for volunteering to be part of this program this summer.

Please join IGI and the organizing partners by volunteering your time and contributing your financial support to make the Island Grown Community Lunch Program a sustainable community program.  Checks should be made to FCCOWT with Community Lunch Program in the memo.
