Edgartown, Chilmark and Tisbury will vote on 100 % Renewable Resolution
This important resolution sets an aspirational goal for the Island to move away from fossil fuels, transition to renewable energy and increase carbon capture. You can read more details here. West Tisbury and Aquinnah have both already enthusiastically adopted the resolution. Once the the other towns join in, the Island will have taken the important step of committing to unified goals to address the escalating climate crisis. Please attend your town meeting to help make this possible!
All Town Meetings will vote for Electric School Buses
The MV Public Schools need your vote at all the Town Meetings to approve funding for the first steps in electrifying the school bus fleet. With the help of VW settlement grant money, MVYPS plans to purchase two electric school buses. We currently have 21 full-length school buses: 16 gas, 5 diesel. Electrifying school buses reduces emissions that are harmful to our kids and saves our School Districts money in fuel and maintenance costs!
Edgartown and Oak Bluffs will Vote to enable MA Green Community Status
Both towns need to vote to adopt the MA Stretch Energy Code to enable their applications to the MA Green Community program. In addition, Oak Bluffs needs to vote on a As of Right zoning bylaw designating their landfill as a site for large scale solar installation. With the inclusion of Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, the entire Island will be enrolled in the Green Community program.
Edgartown will vote on Electrification Infrastructure
Residents will vote on inductive bus chargers installed by the VTA and located at the Edgartown bus station on Church Street. Also included is a full renovation of the bus plaza area to make it more welcoming and provide more seating, more shelter, and better lighting. All costs are covered by grants, so it is free to the town. Also being considered is funding for EV chargers at the Park and Ride.
Oak Bluffs will consider three articles on Plastic Pollution
Article 43 tasks the town with forming a plastic reduction committee to comprehensively address plastic pollution.
Article 44 asks OB to adopt an island-wide resolution to end the use of polystyrene types of plastic (including styrofoam).
Article 45 is the student-led bylaw that places a ban on the sale of plastic water and soda bottles of one liter or less.
